I was born, raised, and educated in Charlottesville, Virginia. I have been interested in women's health and related issues for a long time, but it wasn't until I became pregnant with my son in 2007 that I became specifically interested in childbirth. We had a truly wonderful doula who attended our un-medicated hospital delivery in 2008. Her knowledge and support gave me so much confidence in myself and my ability to deliver my son. In June of 2010, I finally decided to become a doula myself, and enrolled in a certification program with The Organization of Labor Assistants for Birth Options and Resources (toLabor, formerly known as ALACE). Since starting my training, I have come to realize that this is the work I am meant to do. Everything in my life has led me to this work! It is a privilege to attend mothers giving birth and to be present as new life enters the world- an opportunity that I approach with humility and gratitude.
